How Dedicated Servers Work

When we talk about web hosting servers, there are three major kinds - hosting servers, VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web hosting servers accommodate numerous customers and hence the system resources per hosting account are restricted, VPS give you more server configuration autonomy, but also influence other Virtual Private Servers on the hardware node if utilized imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the liberty to perform everything you please without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more expensive than shared web servers or virtual web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is very simple. If your firm has a heavy-content site, or simply has very special server architecture requirements, the most suitable choice is a dedicated servers. For someone who is inclined to invest in security and stability, the bigger price is not a problem. You are bestowed with full server root access and can use 100 percent of the hosting server's resources without anyone else availing of these resources and interfering with your sites.

Hardware specs

The majority of hosting firms, incl. us at TecWeb21 Hosting, provide several different hardware architectures you can choose from as per your demands. The hardware configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can select a hosting Control Panel, which is a handy tool if you wish to use the dedicated servers for web hosting purposes only and prefer not to use a Secure Shell client for all the modifications you will be making. We provide 3 types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a confident Linux user (our servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated servers through an SSH terminal only. That, though, could be inconvenient, even more so if you choose to give complete root access to someone else who has less technical abilities than yourself. This is why having hosting Control Panel software pre-installed is a smart idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP software that we offer does not give you complete server root access and is mainly appropriate for someone who maintains lots of web sites that absorb a lot of resources, but would rather administer the web portals, databases and e-mailbox accounts using a user-friendly web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, grant root privileges and have 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting packages instead of utilizing the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your dedicated web hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring platform activated. Here at TecWeb21 Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also a bonus option - the hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would permit you to have the very same data on 2 hard drives as a protective measure in the event of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root access erases something by accident.
